Air Cargo Glossary
For purposes of exemplification only, we are happy to introduce our internet site with an initial explanation of terms common in international air transportation. Please note that the terms hereunder and their description is for the purposes of initial explanation, they are not binding upon CAL, nor will they be deemed as a legal advise or full definition of the terms hereunder or could be used for any purpose. The terms and their explanation cannot and does not replace any legal consulting.
| Flight manifest | | | A list which contains the details of the cargo carried on board of the aircraft |  |
| Free domicile | | | International transportation of cargo where the shipper incurs all transportation charges and any applicable duties and taxes. |  |
| Freighter | | | An aircraft designated for the carriage of cargo only. |  |
| Gateway | | | The port where export customs clearance takes place, or major airport. |  |
| Gross Weight | | | Actual weight of a shipment together with packing material |  |
| Harmonized System – HS (The Harmonized Commodity Description and Coding System) | | | An harmonized codexed system used for the classification of goods in international trade, which allows the identification of a commodity by a certain number. |  |
| HAWB | | | An AWB issued by a freight forwarder identifying a specific shipment in a consolidation |  |
| Hazardous Materials | | | See: Dangerous goods. |  |
| IATA | | | International Air Transport Association. The association promotes safety, and regulations for air transportation including in connection with airlines, passenger, shippers, travel agent, and government standardization. |  |
| Incoterms | | | International Commercial Terms Maintained by the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC). The codification is designated, inter alia, for defining the distribution of responsibilities for risk of loss between buyer and seller. |  |
| Intermodal | | | Transportation of goods with more than one mean of transportation (such as an aircraft, truck, a ship, etc.). |  |
| HazMat | | Common abbreviation for "hazardous materials" (also known as Dangerous Goods). |  |
